The two desktops will run WinXP Pro but will need to be wireless. They will need to have access both to the internet and to the My Documents folder and presumably (?) share a printer. I am based in the UK and have 1MB broadband (from NTL) through a cable set top box. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

I had a similar problem when sharing a printer (connected to XP) over the network. It seemed the other W98 machines on the n/w could not see it. However, when I try to use either of them from WinXP, the system issues a message stating that I (the Administrator) don't have permission to use that printer.

If in a workgroup, control is handled by the machine the printer is connected to. If in a domain, then the resource is handled by the domain controller. printer share permissions hampering use
I have: 2 PCs running WinXP Home 2 Ethernet cards 2 cat-5 patch cables 1 second-hand 4-port router (Linksys BEFSR41) I hooked everything up, the computers configured the ethernet cards okay, and both computers can log into the router. But I can't figure out how to share the printer hooked up to the one computer.

I had great hopes for WinXP but after nearly a year of use, it is beginning to get bogged down and unstable just as every other version of Windows has. I'll soon take off a day to Sharing a printer between the two takes a little extra knowledge - unless your printer supports IP protocol - then it is a breeze.
